In the latest episode of our Behind the Beer series, Brewmaster Matt Brynildson delves deeper into the making of an original Firestone Walker beer, Firestone Lager.

“It ain’t for thinking. It’s simply for drinking. It’s Firestone Lager beer.” – Matt

“This beer came to us a long time ago, and it’s one of the originals. It was really the second or third beer after DBA. Having been discontinued for a short time, we brought this beer back as a staple,” said Matt.

“It’s always the beer that’s in all of the brewers refrigerators. It’s just simple, pure, lager beer.”

“Loosely modeled after the Munich Helles-style, a beer you will see all over Germany in every German beer garden, it’s low in bitterness, less than 20 IBUs, pilsner malt, noble German hops, a beautiful foam, and brilliant clarity. These are all the things that a simple good beer is all about,” shared Matt.

In a craft world dominated by hoppy beers, we went back to the basics with Firestone Lager. This may be our hardest to make, but it is our easiest one to drink. Crisp and refreshing. A soft mouthfeel with bready malt notes and a whisper of German hop bitterness.

In the words of Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, “just clean, good lager drinking beer. Love me some Firestone Lager!”
